In Mad Max: Fury Road, we met Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a badass warrior whose determination is matched by her skill with a rig. We learned a bit of her story in that movie, and now we’re getting the rest of it with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Anya Taylor-Joy stars as the younger Furiosa, kidnapped from an idyllic childhood only to be thrown into an ultra-violent world. Chris Hemsworth co-stars as the warlord Dementus, her kidnapper-turned-protector.
THE GARFIELD MOVIE
May 24
In the course of The Garfield Movie, Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) will meet his long-lost biological father (Samuel L. Jackson), get involved in a high-stakes heist and meet a whole cast of characters voiced by the likes of Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames and Snoop Dogg. He will also eat a lot of lasagna. This family comedy will entertain the kiddos while still giving their adults plenty to laugh at.
HAIKYU!! THE DUMPSTER BATTLE

The hit manga and anime comes to America’s big screens. It’s all been leading up to a battle of the underdogs on the volleyball court, as the rivals-turned-dynamic duo of Hinata and Kageyama lead their Karasuno High team against rival Nekoma High in their ultimate showdown.

If director Ishana Shyamalan’s name rings a bell, there’s a good reason: Ishana Shyamalan is M. Night’s daughter. After writing and directing for television and serving as a second unit director on M. Night’s recent films, she’s ready to deliver her debut on the big screen. The Watchers tells the story of a young woman stranded in a remote forest with strangers, trying to survive in a place where mysterious creatures prowl by night. Shyamalan has described it as a “gothic fairytale”.

The Vandals started off as a social midwestern motorcycle club in the ‘60s, but as we follow them over 10 years, other motives start to emerge. Jeff Nichols wrote the screenplay (loosely based on a 1967 photo book) and directs a powerhouse ensemble featuring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist and Nroman Reedus.
KINDS OF KINDNESS

Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos’s follow-up is a very different kind of film: An anthology of three stories featuring the same group of actors, exploring some of the different ways in which people connect – or don’t connect – with each other. The ensemble is led by Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau and Mamoudou Athie.

A 93-year-old woman might seem like ripe pickings for a phone scammer. As that phone scammer quickly finds out, Thelma is one 93-year-old lady who’s not going to take it lying down. June Squibb stars as the fiercely independent avenging grandmother, and Richard Roundtree gives his final performance as her reluctant sidekick. (And, yes, the stars did their own stunts!)

DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

There’s a great disturbance in the MCU timeline, so the Time Variance Authority calls in... X-Men? Thanks to the Disney-Fox deal, the TVA has a whole new group of superheroes to choose from – which is how frenemies Deadpool and Wolverine end up on an epic quest with universe-spanning implications. One with plenty of action and jokes, of course. It’s still a Deadpool movie.

ALIEN: ROMULUS

The Alien franchise returns with a standalone feature, directed by Fede Álvarez (2013's Evil Dead). This new installment, set between the first Alien and Aliens, follows young adults who face off with a terrifying life form. We’ve seen some pretty amazing characters from the other Alien films, so we’re excited to see what the Alien: Romulus team has cooked up to top them.
BLINK TWICE

Zoe Kravitz makes her directorial debut with this taut mystery-thriller, in which a waitress is invited to a tech mogul’s private island. Things quickly begin to go wrong, including the functioning of memory. Kravitz also co-wrote the black comedy, which stars Naomi Ackie as the waitress and Channing Tatum as the tech mogul, with supporting turns from Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat, Geena Davis and more.
THE CROW

In this reboot of the series, Bill Skarsgard stars as the titular superhero, who’s back from the dead to avenge the deaths of himself and his love (played by musician FKA twigs).

The Kendrick Brothers first made a name for themselves with faith-based drama War Room. They revisit the setting with The Forge, in which an aimless young man is challenged to make something of his life through study and prayer.
THEY LISTEN

The folks behind They Listen have been tight-lipped about the plot, but here’s what we know: They Listen is written and directed by Chris Weitz and released under the auspices of Blumhouse. Stars include John Cho, David Dastmalchian, Katherine Waterston and Riki Lindhome. With credits like that, we can’t wait to see what they whip up.
