The idea for 1984's Splash was originally conceived during a late-night drive in 1977 after producer Brian Grazer was left wondering what would happen if he met a mermaid and fell in love. Cut to seven years later -- after many in Hollywood rejected the concept -- and the film Splash was born, starring Tom Hanks as a lowly everyman who falls for a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) while also trying to protect her from nefarious individuals out to capture her. Oh, and John Candy is awesome as Hanks' best friend.
Now cut to 2016 and Grazer seems to be back in the Splash game, telling CNBC's Carl Quintanilla (during Quintanilla's new digital series Binge) that he's remaking the '80s classic, only this time they're switching it up by presenting the mermaid's point of view rather than the man's.

Besides the fact that there's already a big unnamed movie star attached to the film (which he reveals after he was asked who he'd recast in the Hanks role, leading us to believe said movie star is going to play that part), Grazer says there's another twist he's not telling us.
Maybe the Hanks part... is a woman? And they're either going to tell a story about two women (one human, one mermaid) or they're swapping things and making the dude a mermaid (merman?).
No other details were announced, though now that the mermaid is out of the bag, expect more news to follow on the Splash remake shortly. Watch the original film's trailer below.
