The bad news is we still don’t have an actor to play Spider-Man in the superhero reboot due out during the summer of 2012. The good news? The role has been narrowed down to pretty much every young up-and-coming actor in Hollywood.
While that’s not entirely true, there are several names still in the mix – most of whom have screen-tested for the part (meaning they’ve auditioned in front of a camera; possibly while wearing the Spidey suit), and so the final decision now rests in the hands of executives at Columbia Pictures and the film’s director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer).
The actors still being considered (according to Deadline) include Jamie Bell (Jumper, Billy Elliot), Anton Yelchin (Terminator: Salvation, Star Trek), Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass, Nowhere Boy), Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro) and Michael Angerano (Lords of Dogtown). Angerano is the only new name on this list, while the others have been rumored to be involved for awhile now.
If you want my two cents (and of course you want my two cents because I once lived in Forest Hills, Queens, home of Peter Parker), I feel like Logan Lerman is the kid you want for Spider-Man. He’s got the boy-next-door quality that’s perfect for Peter Parker, and he’s also someone who could grow nicely into the role over the course of a trilogy. I feel Bell, Johnson, Yelchin and Garfield just don’t fit the part (unless they’re going angsty dark, and in that case Bell would do the trick).
Out of this group of guys, which one do you think should become the next Spider-Man? Remember, choose wisely: there’s a good chance that whoever nabs the part will be our new webslinger for the next several years.
