Where will your imagination take you this summer? More than 6,000 Fandango fans have resoundingly answered: 'Back to movie theaters, please!' That's according to a survey conducted by Fandango, as revealed in their 2023 Moviegoing Trends & Insights Study, indicating that 86% of moviegoers plan to see more movies on big screens this summer, compared to last year. Of those surveyed, more than 81% plan to see three or more movies in theaters.

An even higher percentage (89%) are excited at the prospect that more movies will be available to see in theaters this year than in the recent past. Which films have generated the most excitement? Here are the 15 most anticipated films of the 2023 summer movie season:

Note: The above survey looked at films scheduled to be released heading into Memorial Day weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was previously voted the most anticipated film of 2023 earlier this year

The report makes clear that people love the moviegoing experience itself, which they love to share with their spouse or partner (63%), children (56%) and friends (50%). Of those surveyed, 68% say they like to spend time with family and friends at the movies, while 61% say it's their favorite summer activity.

What do people enjoy most about seeing movies in theaters? Some two-thirds of all moviegoers say they prefer to watch blockbusters on a big screen as soon as possible; most (84%) say that a premium format enhances the experience. Almost everybody (94%) purchased concessions, so popcorn and a soda definitely makes everything more enjoyable.
