Sound Off is a weekly theater-related discussion post here at Fandango where we talk about the past, present and future of moviegoing.
It wouldn't feel like October without a familiar horror franchise churning out another sequel. With its fourth installment arriving in theaters this weekend, it has now become a tradition where we expect a new Paranormal Activity in theaters every Halloween. Before Paranormal Activity, it was the Saw franchise, and after Paranormal Activity? Well, maybe they'll start remaking the Saw movies, or the Friday the 13th movies. Or perhaps we'll see a completely new series take over October.
How long will it be before the Paranormal Activity movies run out of steam? Well, that's up to you. If you keep seeing them, they'll keep making them -- but at some point it'll run its course, and if it were up to you to decide its replacement, what would you pick? An old horror franchise, an existing horror franchise, or something completely new?
That's our discussion topic this week. I want to know which horror movie (or franchise) you'd like to see producing sequels every October. If you're happy with Paranormal Activity, then by all means go with that as your pick. Tell the powers that be to keep making them. But if you were in charge -- tasked with curating the October moviegoing experience for everyone each year -- what would you go with?
