If you were a fan of that quirky summer comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock called The Proposal and were hoping that a sequel would eventually find its way to theaters, it looks like you're sadly out of luck. Sure, the film was one of Disney's highest grossing of 2009 (where it pulled in roughly $315 million on a $40 million budget), but even with those numbers taken into consideration, the studio has told producers that it does not want a sequel.
Why, you might ask? Well, according to the New York Magazine's Vulture blog, Disney isn't interested in making those types of films from here on out. They're really only focusing on producing either the giant, big-budget blockbuster (think: Pirates of the Caribbean, Prince of Persia or anything from the newly acquired Marvel universe) or a smaller film with up-and-coming actors that can suck in the teen and tween audiences (like Freaky Friday or High School Musical).
Essentially, Disney is looking for brands – films they can spin-off into all different types of merchandising, and, sadly, I can't see the kids begging mom and dad for the latest Sandra Bullock doll from The Proposal 2. Not gonna happen.
