From Lizerne Guiting: What happens when Carrie meets Nightmare on Elm Street meets … Juno? A supernatural teen horror comedy called Jennifer’s Body, that’s what.
Written by Juno scribe Diablo Cody and starring Megan Fox as the titular Jennifer, Body tells the tale of a virginal Minnesota cheerleader (Fox) who transforms into a flesh-consuming demon after a rock band sacrifices her to the devil in exchange for stardom. Possessed, she picks off the boys at school to feed upon.
I had the chance recently to visit the Vancouver set and hang out for a day with Cody and the cast and crew while they filmed a couple of scenes. In one, Jennifer and her awkward BFF, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), check out a visiting band (Adam Brody plays its frontman). When Jennifer lights up a smoke, a guy snatches it from her and tosses it, comparing her lungs to “two pink lamb chops.” Leave it to Cody to make horror quirky.
“Juno is a film that warmed your heart, and this is a film that wants to eat your heart,” producer Jason Reitman told us before a black-eyelinered Brody, looking a lot like Chris Carrabba from emo band Dashboard Confessional, came over. Chomping on cheese and crackers, Brody added that even though he’s a villain, Jennifer is actually the truly scary element.
That’s it for the tease. I’ll have a full set report, including more scene details and interviews with Diablo Cody, director Karyn Kusama, Seyfried and Brody, coming up soon.
