An artist's rendering of the Rebel Blockade Runner from 'Star Wars'
News broke this week that all six Star Wars movies were heading to digital HD for the first time in a new collection to be released on April 10. Not only will you get shiny new digital versions of the existing Star Wars movies, but the collection will also come chock-full of all kinds of special features, many of which we've never seen.
Like nerdy conversations between those who brought Star Wars to life.
Here's a little tease (via USA Today) of a chat between set decorator Roger Christian and visual effects designer Joe Johnston on the origins of the iconic Millennium Falcon.
Hardcore Star Wars fans may already be familiar with the nuggets both Christian and Johnston drop in the video above -- most notably that the Rebel Blockade Runner (pictured at top) was originally intended to be Han Solo's ship, to the point that it was built and all ready to go.
That changed when George Lucas watched the '70s TV series Space: 1999, which featured a very similar ship called the Eagle (pictured below).
After Lucas saw the Eagle, he insisted they rethink the Falcon so that it looks completely different. The guys then go on to reveal how they came up with the ship's look and how their mistakes even made it into the final design.
Star Wars: The Digital Collection will be available on April 10. Here's a list of all the special features included with the collection.
