While we’re still a couple of years away from a new Spider-Man film (the fourth in director Sam Raimi’s hit-or-miss series arrives in theaters on May 6, 2011), it looks like the big baddie from the third Spidey flick might be getting some more time in the spotlight. Rumored to be working on a Venom spin-off script, Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently told a group of reporters that they were indeed writing the Venom script for Sony, and were waiting to hear back from the studio on a first draft they just handed in.Venom, in case you forgot, is an alien symbiote life form that attaches itself to people and transforms them into vicious monsters.

The two writers wouldn’t get into story details or whether the new spin-off film would pick up where Spider-Man 3 left off, but they did admit to working for a very long time with Marvel and Sony before going off to write a draft. According to Reese [via Coming Soon], "… [Sony] had specific rules about the villain and the backstory and stuff like that, so there were certain things they wanted us... certain parameters they gave us. But largely we pitched them something and they liked it but they had changes, so we worked on the outline for a long time and then we wrote the script. So with Marvel and Sony and us it's definitely very, very collaborative."

No word on a release date or cast yet, but I’d be curious to hear what you think of a Venom spin-off flick?

Will 'Tron 2' Become The Most Expensive Film of All Time?

I’m sure you’re all aware by now that Disney is making a sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic Tron, bringing back folks like Jeff Bridges to reprise his role from the original. Early footage screened at Comic Con and ShoWest shows tons of promise, according to reports, especially the 3D aspects of the film, which, if you remember how freaky the original looked, will probably blow that out of the water.

That said, is it worth $300 million? According to an article in the Vancouver Sun (as pointed out to us by Slashfilm), they’re claiming the budget for Tron 2 is up around $300 million – making it one of the most expensive films ever made. Of course there’s a chance the newspaper is wrong, but if it’s not then that seems like a pretty big deal, don’t ya think? Especially since the biggest name in the movie is Jeff Bridges, who, let’s face it, ain’t exactly Zac Efron. I’m all for a big, shiny, awesome-looking Tron sequel, but do you think $300 million is a bit much?

Tron 2 is expected to hit theaters in 2011.

Who’s Directing The Next James Bond Movie This Week?

It’s no secret that Bond producers are currently making a list of directors they’d like to put in charge of the next 007 adventure, and so far we’ve heard rumors that folks like Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and Ian Softley (Inkheart) were already being considered for the job. Now, however, CinemaBlend adds one more name to the list: Tony Gilroy, who you might know as the director of films like the recent Duplicity and Michael Clayton, but who is also the writer of – wait for it – all three Bourne films. Sounds like a pretty logical choice to me, one that could potentially have Gilroy writing the next Bond movie, too. And since the Bond and Bourne films feel very similar, Gilroy may be the right fit for the franchise.

Who do you think should direct the next Bond film?
