Do any of you actually remember the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred? Some of you might be a bit too young to remember the movie in theaters, and from what I’ve heard you actually have to travel to Middle-Earth (and more specifically, Mordor) in order to find a copy of this film on video or DVD. That said, someone brave enough in Hollywood (ahem, Universal) thought Drop Dead Fred needed to be remade, and they’ve pegged British bad boy Russell Brand to star, so says The Hollywood Reporter.
For those who don’t remember (or never saw the film), Drop Dead Fred told of a woman who’s reunited with her childhood imaginary friends after losing her job and her husband. Unfortunately, Fred, her imaginary friend, wreaks even more havoc in her life. In the original, Phoebe Cates and British actor Rik Mayall starred as the girl and imaginary friend, respectively. Seems like it might be a good fit for Anne Hathaway, but we’ll see where they go with it.
Any Drop Dead Fred fans out there? Are you stoked to see they’re remaking it?
New Humpty Dumpty Film Is Nothing Like the Nursery Rhyme
We all know the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty – how he fell off the wall he was sitting on and then hoped all the King’s horses and men could put him back together again. Well, a new Humpty Dumpty is gearing up to hit the big screen soon, and it’s not even in the same universe as the classic rhyme…literally.
Variety tells us that David R. Ellis will direct a new film called Humpty Dumpty that will be a 3D sci-fi horror tale about a half-human, half-alien creature who goes on a murderous rampage following the brutal death of his alien mother at the hands of two seedy dudes in the Deep South. Quite a departure from falling off that wall, but I’d be lying if I said that tiny piece of plot didn’t pique my interest. You?
Will Channing Tatum Join the 'Twilight' Saga?
As the Twilight saga becomes more and more popular, Summit Entertainment has been looking to throw a bit more money and talent at the franchise. David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) has agreed to direct the third film in the series, Eclipse, and now rumor has it that Channing Tatum may show up in a role as a vampire in that third movie as well.
Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg recently told E! Online that the actor would be perfect as a nasty vampire named Riley. She says, "There’s a very big battle at the end with Riley, and I think Channing would do that so well. And there are some complexities to that character. He really is tragic. He's a puppet for Victoria (who’s another vampire character). So he has to break your heart a little bit at the end when he realizes that she doesn't want him. Channing could do that beautifully."
I don’t know about you, but Tatum would certainly give Robert Pattinson a run for his money in the heartthrob department, and I bet a lot of you fans out there would love to see him don some fangs.
What do you think? Is Melissa right in thinking that Channing Tatum would be perfect as the vampire Riley?
