Leonardo DiCaprio to Become a Prisoner

A film that originally boasted the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, for one reason or another, production on Prisoners just never got going (director Antoine Fuqua dropping out didn't help matters either). Now, though, Deadline Hollywood tells us that Leonardo DiCaprio is interested in starring … but it all depends on who Alcon Entertainment (those producing the film) bring on as director.
Leonardo DiCaprio

Maybe you've noticed, but DiCaprio doesn't seem to be starring in films that don't also carry a well known, A-list director, at least not lately (Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Sam Mendes, Martin Scorsese and Ed Zwick are some of the directors he's worked with recently). So, in order to get DiCaprio to star in the film – which follows a small-town carpenter who goes all vigilante after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped – they're going to have to attract a big-name director.

But while producers chew on that potential name, can we maybe talk about the plot? How many films should we expect to hit theaters where some dude takes matters into his own hands after a loved one is kidnapped? Heck, last year's Taken dealt with the same exact plot as Prisoners.

Is this really a film we should look forward to, with or without DiCaprio?

50 Cent to Play College Football

Rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent hasn't exactly taken on the most challenging of roles throughout his brief film career, but even so the guy continues to impress enough people that he's cast in a good amount of films each year. The latest comes by way of Variety, who tell us that 50 Cent (or "fitty") will star in Things Fall Apart for director Mario Van Peebles, in which he'll play a running back and college senior who "faces personal tragedy as well as his own mortality while in his senior year in college."

Sounds a little deep for a 50 Cent movie – could this be a break-out role for the young actor; perhaps one that gets him recognized come Oscar time? What do you think? Do you like 50 Cent as an actor? Do you see star potential, or is he limited to only certain kinds of roles?

'American Pie 4' to Hit the Big Screen?

Universal is interested in resurrecting the American Pie franchise on the big screen after several pretty successful straight-to-DVD releases. Instead of a straight franchise reboot, though, sources say they want to bring back the original cast members, as well as new folks, and stage one of these franchise-hand-offs where existing characters hand the series off to a bunch of newbies, like what they're doing with Ghostbusters 3.

So far all we know is that Seann William Scott (who played Stifler) has had meetings about it, and is most likely on board. According to CHUD, they're looking at a storyline that features all the old gang coming back together for their 10-year high school reunion.

What say you? Are you interested in a new American Pie, or did you stop caring about those characters a long time ago?
