This isn’t the first time we've heard of a potential remake of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the classic 1969 Western starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman. A couple of years ago rumors pegged Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as being interested in a big-screen remake, but that fizzled out.
Now, however, the dreaded remake whispers have returned – only this time it’s those rumor-crazed Brits from across the pond who are causing all the trouble. The Daily Express reports Tom Cruise received Paul Newman’s blessing before he passed to remake the film; that he intends to produce it through his United Artists banner and star as The Sundance Kid, originally played by Robert Redford. On top of that, their sources claim Cruise also wants his pal John Travolta to play Butch Cassidy.
The Daily Express claims Cruise is currently interviewing screenwriters in an effort to find the right voice for the job, though as far as we know nothing is official yet. What do you think: Should Cruise and Travolta remake Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or is that one of those way-too-sacred films that shouldn’t ever be touched?
Terminator Salvation Gets a PG-13 Rating
Fanboys today seem all up in arms over the apparent PG-13 rating for Terminator Salvation (revealed through a Pizza Hut promotion), especially since the first three Terminator films were all rated R. Does that mean this new Terminator – which is the first to be set in a future where the robots begin to take over – will come watered down, without the high-octane battles we’ve been anticipating for years?
Based on the trailers and the TV commercials, I don’t think we have much to worry about in terms of action. Remember, last year’s biggest and baddest film (The Dark Knight) was also rated PG-13, and the MPAA seems to reward those intense sci-fi films with a lower rating because the subject matter is very fantastical and nowhere near realistic. Of course, we wouldn’t be surprised if an unrated cut sneaked its way onto DVD by Christmas.
Now You, Too, Can Work on Star Trek's Enterprise
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 24 hours (no offense to those earthworms reading the blog), then you’re aware that last night Star Trek premiered in Australia, and at the same time screened for one lucky audience in Austin, Texas (who thought they were going to watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan). To read what folks are saying (most of the buzz is super positive), head over to this review recap at Cinematical and this Twitter recap at Slashfilm.
And because I love to share pieces of awesomeness with you, here’s a little something for the hardcore Star Trek nut in your family. It’s an Enterprise Bridge wall mural, so you at home can feel as if you’re hanging with Captain Kirk on the Enterprise while chillin’ in your bed, doing the lazy Sunday afternoon channel surfing thing. Sure, its $190 … but that shouldn’t stop you fans from saving up the pennies. Check out the image below, and find out more over here.
