Old-school gamers will remember the original Castlevania video game from Konami in which you play as Simon Belfont, a vampire hunter who heads to Dracula’s demonic castle to destroy all the monstrous inhabitants including old Dracula himself? Well, Hollywood’s been trying to make a big-screen feature out of this game for awhile now, and it’s especially timely since vampires are all the rage these days. Image

Originally Paul W.S. Anderson was brought on to write and direct, but then the film kind of fell behind and wasn’t as much of a priority…until now. Bloody-Disgusting reports that James Wan (Saw) will jump behind the camera and help co-write Castlevania for Paul W.S. Anderson, who’s still involved as a producer. Wan, who definitely has a keen eye when it comes to creeping us out, tells the site: “I'm thrilled by the opportunity to make a highly stylized, fantasy, action film that focuses on the gothic storyline and the cool, anime-like characters. For once, the human hero is as sexy and dangerous as the vampire villain, and his weapon of choice was what attracted me to the project in the first place - The Vampire Killer Whip."

Ah, that vampire whip – remember how uncool and not very exciting it looked back in the old video game days? Something tells me that whip will turn out a whole lot cooler when the film eventually hits theaters ... we hope.

What do you think of a Castlevania movie?
