Following a tease on social media over the weekend, Sony Pictures has officially announced Sam Smith ("Stay with Me," "I'm Not the Only One") as the voice behind the upcoming theme song for the 24th James Bond movie, SPECTRE. The song, titled "Writing's on the Wall," will be available on September 25, and it marks the first time a British male solo artist has performed the 007 theme song since Tom Jones did it for 1965's Thunderball.
Smith's song -- written alongside Grammy winner Jimmy Napes -- will follow on the heels of Adele's wildly successful theme song for Skyfall, which snagged a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for "Best Original Song," as well as a Grammy Award for "Best Song Written for Visual Media" and a Brit Award for "British Single of the Year."
Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of SPECTRE, said, "Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for SPECTRE and with Sam's extraordinary vocal performance, 'Writing's on the Wall' will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time."

"This is one of the highlights of my career." Smith said. "I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible lineup of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
Here's a taste of what we can expect from Smith when his song drops later this month. SPECTRE hits theaters on November 6.
