Last night, rumors started to circulate that a follow-up to the 2004 indie hit Before Sunset was currently filming in Greece. Titled Before Midnight, the film would pick up where the Julie Delpy/Ethan Hawke storyline left off in Paris.
Ethan Hawke had let slip that there were plans to get started on a script for the potential sequel last fall. He said that he and Delpy and director Richard Linklater were figuring out the story, but since then we hadn't heard anything from the trio.
Greek newspapers are reporting that Hawke is currently on set in the southwestern area of Pelponnese, shooting the film.
The folks over at The Playlist suggest Linklater has chosen Greece because his Detour Film production company is co-producing the film with Greek film company Faliro House. Specifically, they're said to be shooting in Messinia in southerwestern Greece and that Hawke has been in the area since late July and plans to stay until early September.
Although Hawke has been spotted and Linklater's company is apparently working there, there has been no word on whether Delpy has been seen. It could mean that Hawke and Linklater are collaborating on another project or that Delpy has been in the area and the papers haven't written about her. Or perhaps her scenes don't shoot until later on.
Whatever Hawke has going on, let's hope we hear more details soon. For now, feel free to speculate below. Are they shooting a sequel to Before Sunset? Is Hawke working on a different project? What do you think?
