When news first broke that Sylvester Stallone would be reprising his Rambo character for a fifth installment, word was the plot would revolve around John Rambo rescuing a kidnapped girl somewhere along the U.S./Mexico border – and that the film itself would tackle immigration issues, while highlighting gang activity, etc…Now, however, all of that has changed, and Sly went straight to AICN with the proper plot for Rambo 5 (now titled Rambo 5: The Savage Hunt)…and it's a bit strange.

 
What appears to be some sort of adaptation of James Byron Huggins' novel Hunter, Rambo 5 will find our hero chasing after a wild beast loose somewhere near the Arctic Circle. Oh yes, we may as well call this sucker Rambo vs. Predator because that's where it looks to be heading. From the official plot synopsis:

John Rambo could track anyone - or anything - on earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultrasensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation.
 
It's a job that Rambo and his 22-year-old hunting partner, Beau Brady, can't turn down, but they and a team of highly-skilled special forces kill team discover that the prey is a terror beyond their wildest imagination - a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man's cunning, a predator's savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Rambo and Beau survive its unrelenting hunger for human blood, they'll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.
 
So they're going a little sci-fi with Rambo's next film. Does it remind me of the attempt to put Jason Voorhees in outer space? Kinda. But even so, I think Rambo on the hunt for some creature would not only give Stallone his own version of Predator, but it could also be a fun genre-bending flick.
