Something tells me our little weekly box office guessing game is going to have a lot of winners this time around. Despite the fact that one of this week’s big releases leaked online last month, it’s still poised to open big. And since this week marks the official start of the summer movie season, we shouldn’t expect anything less … right? Let’s take a look at the players:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
What’s The Scoop: Hugh Jackman returns to the role that clawed its way into our hearts with three previous mutant-friendly films, but this time it’s an origin story with a whole new crop of crazy cats sporting freakish abilities.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: It’s the first big-budgeted flick of the summer movie season, it carries tons of special effects and Wolverine may knife through any film that tries to get in his way. Yeah, this one’s a pretty safe bet.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
What’s The Scoop: For those not interested in explosions and mutant-on-mutant violence, there’s this romantic comedy starring Matthew McConaughey as a guy who’s haunted by the ghosts of his ex-girlfriends.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Unless Wolverine gets stuck in a massive amount of traffic, I can’t see that happening.

According to Fandango’s expert mega-computer, Wolverine is currently responsible for 82% of all ticket sales, while Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is trying to play catch-up with 5%. Remember, last week’s number one film, Obsessed, could swing in and play upset – though chances of that happening are slim to uh, yeah, no. Sound off below …
