Don’t worry, they’re not actually calling it Peter Pan Begins (because that would just be too on-the-nose and corny), but that was the way it was pitched, and it should tell you a little about where they’re heading with it. It’s not all too surprising to see Peter Pan pop up Peter Panagain in the movie news, especially since Hollywood seems obsessed right now with creating updated origin stories for a lot of classic fairytale characters, like Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and Little Red Riding Hood. It’s just a matter of time before Little Bo Peep gets her hands dirty in some big-screen action-adventure.

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Channing Tatum, screenwriter Billy Ray and producer Joe Roth have teamed up on the Peter Pan idea, which we imagine will tell a slightly more action-orientated origin story for Peter Pan, one that probably won’t include the three kids and that whole flying-from-the-bedroom thing. This’ll be a prequel, and we imagine it’ll show us how Pan and Captain Hook came to be mortal enemies.
It’s still early and no one has picked it up yet, so we don’t have too many details. Does Channing Tatum want to play Peter Pan? We don’t know, but I’ll give you my first casting suggestion: Daniel Day-Lewis as Captain Hook. Bam!
Do you think a Peter Pan origin story will work?
