Christmas Day is going to be a busy one at the box office. In addition to five, yes, five wide releases crowding into the theater, three award-season contenders will also be making an appearance.
One of those films is Lone Survivor, based on the true story and book by former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. Friday Night Lights director Peter Berg helms the project which features a strong cast anchored by Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, Eric Bana and Taylor Kitsch.
Today Universal has released a behind-the-scenes look at the film via Yahoo Movies, which delves into what brought about the adaptation and the obligation that Berg and the actors felt to get the story right.
The film follows a four-man team on a reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan who, due to poor communication, find themselves ambushed and under fire from local Taliban members. Three of the four SEALs were killed during the confrontation.
Lone Survivor opens limited on Christmas Day to qualify for award season and expands nationwide January 10.
