Each day that passes in October brings us closer to not only Halloween, but the annual installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise. Earlier this year, the creators of the lucrative franchise announced that there would be a Latino-themed spin-off that currently has Disturbia's Christopher Landon attached to write and direct.
Rather than being a prequel or sequel to the current Paranormal franchise, this spin-off will star a Latino cast and focus on Catholic-based paranormal mythology. The film will not, however, be in Spanish.
Bloody Disgusting was the first to break the news back in April and says that Paramount could potentially schedule the film for a January 2013 release. While the development of the spin-off has been relatively quiet since the news first broke, it is conceivable that releasing a teaser clip at the end of Paranormal Activity 4 could hint that the spin-off is on schedule and would serve to whet the appetite of horror movie fans.
Latinos are a growing market for Hollywood studios and the U.S. population of Latinos see movies at a higher rate than non-Latinos. Religious themed horror movies also tend to play very well in heavily-Latino markets.
Are you curious to see what this Latino spin-off has in store or are you no longer interested in the Paranormal franchise?
