Production has begun in Australia on the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, starring John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). In November, Boyega shared a photo of his script, titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
Around the same time, director Steven S. DeKnight shared a photo with the same title on a clapboard.
Now, however, the movie has received a new title: Pacific Rim: Uprising, per an official press release from Legendary (via We Got This Covered). Lana Candor, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Ivanna Sakhno and Adria Arjona also star in the movie, which, we're guessing, will once again pit giant monsters vs. giant robots. Pacific Rim: Uprising will open in theaters on February 23, 2018.

Legendary Pictures is also the production company behind the sequel to Gareth Edwards' Godzilla. The sequel has been in active development since 2014, at least, when we heard that Godzilla would be battling classic Japanese monsters Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah. Since then, Legendary added the crossover movie Godzilla vs. Kong to its production schedule
Earlier this year, director Edwards dropped out of the sequel, citing his desire to make "smaller in scale" projects. (This was just before word leaked out about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story reshoots.) More recently, Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields, who teamed together on horror-comedy Krampus, were brought on board to write the screenplay. Soon thereafter, Dougherty was rumored to be in line to direct the movie.
We don't have confirmation on a director yet, or even an official premise, but the official title has been revealed: Godzilla: King of Monsters. It's scheduled for release on March 22, 2019.

One more bit of Legendary title news concerns Detective Pikachu. Recently we heard that Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) will be directing the live-action movie, based on a character and storyline in the incredibly popular Pokémon universe.
The movie has now received a new title: Pokémon's Detective Pikachu. It's a small change, but a clever bit of brand marketing that might open the door for future productions based on the Pokémon universe. Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch have completed a script and we'll wait to see if any changes will be made. If not, then casting sounds like the next step for the project.
