Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was the big winner at this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards, which honors the best in movies and television from the last year. In addition to being named Best Picture, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned Tarantino an award for Best Original Screenplay while Brad Pitt was named Best Supporting Actor for his role. The movie’s production design, by Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh, also won.
Other winners Sunday night included current box office champion 1917, which was recognized for its editing, cinematography and directing. The last of those categories, though, had a tie. Alongside 1917 director Sam Mendes, Parasite writer/director Bong Joon-ho shared the win for Best Director. Parasite also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Other movies with two wins included Avengers: Endgame, Joker and Dolemite is My Name.
Neither of those two wins for Dolemite is My Name went to star Eddie Murphy, but the actor was honored by the Critics Choice Association with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Another special honor went to actress Kristen Bell, who received the annual #SeeHer Award for her work promoting women on screen (including her voice work in animated nominee Frozen II) and off.
