News Briefs: Two Sequels for Dwayne Johnson's 'Journey' Coming

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Journey Sequels: Dwayne Johnson is set to star in two more sequels to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth. Brendan Fraser starred in the first film, with Johnson stepping into the lead role for 2012's Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Chad and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring) will be writing scripts for both the third and fourth installments; they recently worked with Johnson on the upcoming earthquake flick San Andreas. Django Unchained

The Hateful Eight: Reportedly, a trailer for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight will screen in front of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For when the latter film opens in theaters next week. That might surprise those who know that Tarantino's movie will not start shooting until next year, but some are claiming that it will be nothing more than one minute and 40 seconds (or so) of title cards. In any event, we'll have to wait until Friday, August 22, to know for certain. [SlashFilm]

Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow: Tom Cruise's sci-fi/action picture Edge of Tomorrow did not make as much money in theaters as some expected, so the marketing campaign is being tweaked for its upcoming appearance on home video. The film's slogan "Live. Die. Repeat." is receiving much greater prominence on the packaging, with the official title in much smaller type. Will it make a difference? Blu-ray and DVD versions will be available on October 7. [Variety]

Rudderless Trailer: William H. Macy's directorial debut, Rudderless, stars Billy Crudup as a grieving musician dealing with the unexpected loss of his son. He meets young Anton Yelchin, a budding musician, and, as the first trailer reveals, things get much more buoyant from there. Selena Gomez also stars; it's heading for theatrical release on October 17. [Movies Coming Soon]
