Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider: Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug, whose credits include recent disaster-thriller The Wave and wintry slasher horror flick Cold Prey, will direct a new version of Tomb Raider (2001 version above). Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) wrote an earlier draft of the script, but now Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5) is in negotiations to pen a new version. Emma Stone

Love May Fail: It looks like Emma Stone will star in Love May Fail, based on a recent novel by Matthew Quick (Silver Linings Playbook) that follows a woman whose marriage breaks up because of her cheating husband. Returning to her hometown, she takes up the cause of a teacher who lost her job due to a scandal. Sam Raimi was in talks to direct about a year ago, but is not currently involved with the project. Philippa Boyens

The Merlin Saga: Academy Award winner Philippa Boyens, longtime collaborator of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit), has been tapped to write the script for The Merlin Saga, based on a series of 12 books by T.A. Barron. Young wizard Merlin is the star of the books, "the center of a much larger story where the stakes are no less than the future of magic in the world." The hope is that the movie will serve as a franchise starter. [Deadline]

 

Gods of Egypt

Gods of Egypt Trailer: The first trailer for Gods of Egypt, directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City, Knowing), sets up a wonderfully goofy world, in which a thief teams up with a mythical god on an epic quest, battling enormous creatures and overcoming tremendous obstacles along the way. Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Brenton Thwaites star; the movie is due in theaters on February 26. [Movieclips]
