Gambit: Channing Tatum has been set to star in Marvel's Gambit for a while now, but who will direct? Rupert Wyatt stepped aside in September, and since then three contenders have arisen: Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and Shane Black (Iron Man 3). Liman has the greatest experience with big-budget productions, though Marvel has often selected newer directors. The movie is tentatively set for release on October 7, 2016. [Heroic Hollywood]
Jurassic World: Bryce Dallas Howard came under fire in some quarters because her character in Jurassic World wore high heels while running from dinosaurs. Recently, however, the actress was happy to defend the choice: "This character needed to seem ill-equipped to be in the jungle," she says, adding: "She doesn't have to be in menswear and flats in order to outrun a T. rex. That's what women can do." Director and cowriter Colin Trevorrow has told her that she won't be wearing high heels in the sequel. [Cosmopolitan]
The Girl on the Train: Edgar Ramirez (Deliver Us from Evil) is in negotiations to join the big-screen adaptation of runaway best-selling novel The Girl on the Train. Ramirez is being eyed to play a therapist having an affair with a married woman (Haley Bennett), who then disappears. Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson will star; Tate Taylor (The Help) will direct.
