Dallas Buyers Club / The Wolf of Wall Street

Suicide Squad: Jared Leto, who won an Academy Award for the intense drama Dallas Buyers Club (above, left), is considering a key role -- possibly the Joker -- in the superpowered team-up Suicide Squad. A separate report claims that Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, above right) has already been cast as Harley Quinn, though that's not yet confirmed. Other casting rumors include Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. David Ayer (Fury) will direct. [The Wrap/Collider]

 

Governor Awards 2014

Academy Awards: On Saturday, the Academy presented honorary awards to veteran screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki and actress Maureen O’Hara (The Quiet Man), and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to the multitalented Harry Belafonte. Presenters included Chris Rock, Susan Sarandon, Clint Eastwood, Liam Neeson and John Lasseter, whose celebration of Miyazaki was especially touching (see video below). [Oscars.org]

 

Z for Zechariah

Z for Zachariah: The first official photo from the upcoming thriller Z for Zachariah features Chris Pine, Margot Robbie and Chiwetel Ejiofor. After a nuclear war, Robbie is a farm girl living alone in the only valley with breathable air who must deal with two strangers. The movie is expected in theaters next year. [Variety]

 

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson: For his follow-up to the acclaimed The Grand Budapest Hotel, director Wes Anderson is contemplating a return to stop-motion animation. He made Fantastic Mr. Fox (above), released in 2009, in that format. Anderson suggestion that the project might be divided into multiple episodes, but provided no other details. [The Playlist]
