Avatar

Avatar: James Cameron is ready to move forward with three sequels to Avatar. Well, almost ready; the filmmaker is "in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now," though "all the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set].” He's aware that expectations are high for the sequels, "especially on Avatar 2, to make sure it wasn’t just some big fluke the first time. So we’ve got to deliver." Avatar 2 is currently set for release on December 25, 2017. [EW.com]

Alien: With Alien: Covenant soon to begin production, director Ridley Scott is ready to feature a whole collection of monsters: "There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two." He also acknowledged the importance of the late artist and creature designer H.R. Giger: "I knew I had something special with this creature that he designed. Without that creature, the film wouldn’t have been the same." [The Wrap]

A Star Is Born: Rumor has it that Beyonce (above in Dreamgirls) is once again involved in a new version of A Star Is Born. She left the project more than three years ago; since then, director Clint Eastwood also departed but was replaced earlier this year by Bradley Cooper, who plans to direct and also star as an aging singer eclipsed by his younger paramour. Cooper wanted Beyonce to come back aboard, and now it seems that she has, though the film won't start production until late 2016 at the earliest. [Page Six]
