News Briefs: Cate Blanchett to Play Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin Biopic

Lucille BallCate Blanchett, two-time Oscar winner, will portray actress Lucille Ball in an authorized biographical drama to be written by Aaron Sorkin, who is himself an Academy Award winner for The Social Network. The film will focus on the 20-year marriage of Ball and Desi Arnaz; their children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., will serve as producers. [The Wrap]

American Wolf: Scott Cooper (Black Mass) is in talks to direct American Wolf, based on a true story about a hunter who accidentally kills a well-known endangered animal just outside the boundaries of a national park, sparking a national outrage, and then befriends a wildlife researcher. Jack Reacher 2/Everybody Wants Some: The sequel to Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher has secured a release date from Paramount Pictures. The action-thriller, to be directed by Edward Zwick (Cruise's The Last Samurai), will hit theaters on October 21, 2016. Paramount also announced that Richard Linklater's forthcoming baseball-themed movie, already set for release on April 15, 2016, has received an official title: Everybody Wants Some. [Deadline]

The Night Before Trailer: A new trailer for The Night Before tones down the explicit raunch, making it safe for work. Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie star as best friends who reunite to celebrate the holidays, possibly for the last time. The comedy will open in theaters on November 25.
