Disney's animated adventure Zootopia takes place in a melting pot of a metropolis where animals live together in relative peace and tranquility. Until the arrival of rookie police officer Judy Hopps, that is; she's the first rabbit to join the force and desperately wants to prove that she belongs. That leads Judy (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) to team up with a con-artist fox named Nick (voiced by Jason Bateman) to solve a mysterious case.
Up until now, that's as much as knew about Zootopia, but now Disney has revealed the characters who make up the supporting cast, as well as the actors who are voicing them. Leading the way is Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Mayor Leodore Lionheart (at top). With a name like that, it's no surprise that he's a lion, but rather than a fearsome creature, he's meant to be "a very typical politician," according to codirector Byron Howard (Tangled), who added: "He's very good with the crowd, he has a lot of charisma. And he's so full of himself and blustery."

Idris Elba voices another key character, Chief Bogo, who heads the Zootopia Police Department.

Jenny Slate (Obvious Child) costars as Bellwether, described by codirector Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) as "the harried, put-upon assistant to Mayor Lionheart. She's a very sweet sheep."

Tommy Chong plays "emotional life coach" Yax the yak, who dispenses advice from his position at a Zen retreat.

Versatile voice actor Alan Tudyk (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) gets to be weasel criminal Duke Weaselton, the name a sly reference to the Duke of Weselton, the character he voiced in Disney's smash hit Frozen.
USA Today has all the photos of the newly revealed characters: another fox, Finnick (voiced by Tommy Lister), rabbits named Bonnie and Stu (Bonnie Hunt and Don Lake), and Flash the sloth (voiced temporarily by Raymond Persi, a story artist at Disney whose voice the directors decided to keep in the movie).
The movie sounds like it's shaping up nicely as Disney put the finishing touches on it. Look for Zootopia in theaters on March 4, 2016.
