Grey Gardens Normally I wouldn't include a TV (HBO) movie but Drew Barrymore is so teriffic in this quirky film about a mother and daughter used to a life of wealth and leisure until the family patriarch leaves them for another woman and they're left to fend for themselves. Left to their own devices, things spiral downward until the two eccentric women are living in squalor in their New York mansion. This is based on a true story chronicled in a 1976 documentary -- the women were related to Jackie O, who eventually comes to their rescue.

The Haunting in Connecticut The only thing saving this silly variation on the "based on a true haunted house story" theme (this time the house is an old mortuary - boo!) is Virginia Madsen, whose Candyman was a much better executed scarefest than this one. But if movies with loud noises to make you jump, blurry images reflected in glass and endless games of hide and seek are your bag, rent this one.

New on Blu: The Towering Inferno This 1974 disaster flick starring Paul Newman and Steve McQueen makes its way to hi-def, with amazing picture clarity, and John Williams' score sounds awesome. Unfortunately, no HD-exclusive extras on this one.
