It's hard to see a movie about neighborhood kids trying to hide something out of this world from their parents and not think of E.T. Three decades later and the second we see a batch of kids moving around dimly lit woods or hiding things in their closet we immediately think of Elliott and his new, wrinkly friend. That's just the power of Spielberg.

The Spielberg shadow isn't just cast on American movies, either. It extends around the globe, as you can tell from the first trailer for the Australian movie My Pet Dinosaur. We don't even need to give you a plot on this one. It's E.T., but with a dinosaur.

It doesn't look like this is going to overtake Spielberg's classic as the go-to association for these kind of movies, but it still could manage to entertain a new generation of kids. Until their parents show them E.T., at least.

Give it a shot.

My Pet Dinosaur does not currently have a U.S. release date.
