Thor: Ragnarok begins filming

It's a busy time for comic book movie fans, with a couple big movies still on deck this year (Suicide Squad, Dr. Strange), some that just wrapped production (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman), and many more either already in production (Justice League, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Wolverine 3) or getting ready to begin soon.

On the Marvel front, they've already started rolling on Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now Thor: Ragnarok has kicked off filming in Australia, with director Taika Waititi tweeting the first image from set.

Thor: Ragnarok -- which is being billed as an outer-space buddy road movie featuring Thor and the Hulk -- hits theaters on November 3, 2017.

Captain America gets a statue in Brooklyn

A new 13-foot-tall Captain America statue will be unveiled in Brooklyn's Prospect Park later this summer in honor of Cap's 75th anniversary. The statue, which will first be on display at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, displays a choice quote from Captain America: The First Avenger.

Here's a sketch of it...

Marvel-vs.-DC showdown planned for San Diego Comic-Con

Speaking of Comic-Con, both Marvel and DC will be on hand this year with dueling movie panels (DC will also have people from a ton of its TV shows hosting separate panels), perhaps making this year their strongest Con rumble yet.

Marvel and/or its filmmakers have confirmed both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Dr. Strange will be there, with footage being shown from Marvel's next two movies. In addition, look for teases of Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming (maybe) and possibly word on Marvel's future slate, including the third Avengers movie, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and more.

On the DC side, they're gonna bring it pretty hard, too. Look for the entire Suicide Squad cast to be in attendance alongside the Justice League cast. We could see the first footage from Justice League, not to mention more from next year's Wonder Woman. Look for Warner Bros. to surround Hall H in screens and bring the extra effort in terms of getting fans excited for the future of the big-screen DC universe.
