Questions still surround Lindsay Lohan. Can she ever get her acting career back on track, taking the focus off of her tabloid exploits? And will The Canyons be the vehicle that drives her back up to the top of the mountain?

For the first time in a long while, Lohan has a legitimate director in her corner. Paul Schrader directs The Canyons from a screenplay by Bret Easton Ellis. As the film’s logline explains, it will bathe itself in the youth, glamour and sex culture of Los Angeles circa 2012. Lohan’s male co-star, James Deen, has a long professional history in pornography. And the new trailer for the 2013 film takes an appropriate Grindhouse approach … suggesting that the movie could end up being fun, if it understands its place and plays toward the proper tone.

Or, you know, it could just be a crude knockoff of exploitation films, and yet another flop for LiLo.

Watch the trailer, and judge for yourself. The Canyons is expected in theaters next year. Does this trailer make you excited to see it?
