There are a lot of ways to cast a spell. Maybe not in the real world, but that's at least true in film and television. Sometimes all it takes is a quick, sharp spitting of words. Others need a wand to conjure the impossible. But in the world of Syfy's The Magicians, things are a bit more elaborate than pointing a stick and saying something.
As the below behind-the-scenes clip captures, the minds behind The Magicians, a show about a world of magic just outside the reach of most normal people, crafted a very involved way to change reality. It involves a series of carefully choreographed, complex hand movements that all flow into different forms. We're talking about hand movements that are so precise Dr. Strange would look at them and be embarrassed his are so simple by comparison.

Also, in celebration of the launch of Season 2 of The Magicians, Syfy has partnered with leading finger-tutting dancers and Youtube stars PNUT, CTUT, Nemesis and Strobe, as well as The Magicians actors, to create a music video of tutting set to the song “Powerful” by Major Lazer ft. Ellie Goulding. The music video will be released online by Syfy on Wednesday, 1/18.
