Obviously one of the biggest news stories of the month so far has been that, according to reports, Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) is mentoring the next Superman movie and helping Warner Bros. figure out the right path to take when it comes to successfully rebooting the classic DC character. Meanwhile, perhaps Sony caught on to this whole Hollywood mentoring program, because Avatar producer Jon Landau just told MTV that James Cameron has met with Spider-Man director Marc Webb to discuss shooting in 3D.
We already knew that the next Spider-Man was being shot in 3D (hence its 2012 release date), but Webb – a music video director who made his feature debut with 500 Days of Summer – has never shot on 3D, nor has he directed a giant summer blockbuster, nor has he ever attempted to reboot one of the most successful movie franchises in history. Yeah, the guy could probably use a little advice from the director of the top two highest grossing films of all time, no?
There's no word on what they talked about or just how much time Cameron will invest on helping Webb with Spider-Man, but Landau said they will "try to support that as much as possible." What they won't support, though, are films that are converted to 3D after the fact instead of being shot in 3D right from the start. Landau notes, "Clash of The Titans is coming out in 3-D; they're converting it very hastily into 3-D. I'm not in favor if that. If you want to shoot a 3-D movie, shoot it in 3-D."
