The new Jack Ryan (Chris Pine) will be younger, faster and smarter than previous iterations of the superspy. But did you know he’d also be bigger?

IMAX announced that Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit will grace the oversized screens when it opens in theaters on January 17, 2014.

"Tom Clancy was one of the most gifted tellers of thrilling espionage-themed stories we have ever known," said Greg Foster, CEO of Imax Entertainment and senior executive VP of IMAX, in a release. "We believe that the combination of his truly iconic Jack Ryan character with this stellar cast and the immersive IMAX format will provide moviegoers with a can't-miss joyride."

Branagh, who directs, brings dramatic firepower to his Clancy reboot. Pine will be joined by Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Branagh himself in the villain’s role.

But I don’t believe that Branagh filmed using IMAX cameras, so this likely will be a postproduction conversion. IMAX needs content to fill its screens, and The Hobbit will have been played out by then.

Check out the Shadow Recruit trailer, and get ready for the reboot when it opens in theaters early next year.
