The world needs more Pee-wee Herman in it again, which is why we’re delighted to find out that a new film from the rosy-cheeked funnyman will be going into production in 2015. The project has been in development with Judd Apatow and going through a rewrite. Rolling Stone finally has this update:
"There’s going to be a big announcement any minute now…. Yes. It’s been months and months of being right on the verge of being announced…," Paul Reubens, aka Pee-wee, told the mag. "I thought something was going to go public yesterday, actually, and that you’d be the first person I’d be talking about this with. But I’m thinking there will be something made public very soon. It’s going to get made shortly after the new year. I wish I could tell you about it right now, because… I mean, it’s amazing. It’s going to be amazing."
We have no other information about the film, but since the word “amazing” is being used, we’ll take their word for it. Pee-wee made his big-screen debut in 1985’s Pee-wee's Big Adventure, directed by Tim Burton. By the way, the film was cowritten with SNL’s Phil Hartman. The late comedian actually helped Paul Reubens develop his squeaky, goofy character in the early days. Stay tuned for more as we get it.
Our only request is that the film have more of this, please...
