Director Paul Verhoeven, who stormed Hollywood in the late '80s and early '90s with movies like Total Recall, Basic Instinct and the now-camp-classic Showgirls, has been largely absent for a decade, his last movie (Black Book) released in the U.S. in 2006. But with his latest, Elle, the maverick action auteur looks to be back in a big way. His revenge tale stars Isabelle Huppert as a woman who has a decidedly unique way of viewing her violent rape by a strange intruder. It's drawn rave reviews -- and more than a little criticism for its often-comic touch -- but it seems like it could bring Verhoeven back into the spotlight.

This week, Alicia Malone talks about Elle, as well as the new sci-fi drama Arrival starring Amy Adams, and the modern-day Western Hell or High Water, which makes its debut on FandangoNOW.
