This week, there's not much in the way of new movies to mention being released to home video (unless you're into Josh Hutcherson or Dane Cook--and if so I'm sorry--in which case there's the bizarre horror comedy Detention). So, we give you this lovely new box set of seven Marilyn Monroe classics on Blu-ray, released today on the 50th anniversary of the star's passing, which includes:
- The Seven Year Itch
- Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
- How to Marry a Millionaire
- River of No Return
- There's No Business Like Show Business
- Some Like It Hot (previously released on BD)
- The Misfits (previously released on BD)
The transfers are superb, the blacks very black and the colors brilliant, and the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks sound terrific (though if you're a purist, you have the option of listening in mono, too). There are no extras here that haven't been previously released in SD, but there are still a lot of bonus features worth watching regardless and the films' appearance in HD is a significant enough improvement that fans will want to snap this release up. (Sadly, we wish Niagara had been included, but you can't have it all.)
Now, do you want a copy? Tell me below in the comments which of the seven movies is your favorite, and a copy can be yours! Winner will be selected at random and notified by email by next Tuesday, Aug. 7. Open to U.S. residents 18 and over only, please.
