Only a couple days after X-Men Origins: Wolverine clawed up the box office with a summer-happy $87 million, Variety reports that 20th Century Fox is interested in bringing the mutant back for another go-round. Hmm, who woulda thunk it? There’s no writer or director yet (no word on whether Gavin Hood will return; my feeling is he will not), but we’re told the sequel will head to Japan and focus on the comic’s samurai storyline – which was teased at the end of the new Wolverine movie and seems to be a favorite among hardcore fans of the Marvel character.
But that’s not all star Hugh Jackman has up his sleeves; after all, when you open a movie with $87 million, expect your door to be knocked on quite a bit. In addition to the weird sounding Ghostopolis (which we told you about yesterday), Jackman has also lined up roles in Personal Security, where he’ll play a New York police detective-turned-bodyguard who’s put in charge of a spoiled teen heiress. Also, there’s the long talked-about musical adaptation of Carousel, which is now gaining some more momentum. Jackman would star as Billy Bigelow, and he’s hoping to get Anne Hathaway to play opposite him as Julie Jordan. And if all that’s not enough to keep the guy busy, Universal wants the man to star as a race car driver/getaway car driver in Drive, an adaptation of the James Sallis novel.
