This year, director Guillermo del Toro directed the opening couch-gag sequence for the Halloween special set to air October 6 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.

Today the network released the full sequence featuring zombies, horror icons and animated versions of Stephen King and Alfred Hitchcock. In fact, the three-minute clip is so chock-full of movie references, it needs to be watched  a few times to notice them all.

Fortunately we have it hear, courtesy of the folks at MovieWeb. Take a look below and see how many movie references you can find:

Meanwhile, del Toro is currently at work on his TV movie The Strain and in preproduction on the horror film Crimson Peak. He's also producing/directing the pilot episode for The Incredible Hulk TV series.

Need some help finding all the references? The folks over at MoviePilot took the time to disect the footage.
