The nominations for the 21st annual Critics' Choice Awards have been doled out, and Mad Max: Fury Road once again surprises by leading the pack with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Charlize Theron for both Best Actress and Best Actress in an Action Movie, Tom Hardy for Best Actor in an Action Movie, George Miller for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Makeup, Best Visual Effects, Best Action Movie and Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie.

Looks like the post-apocalyptic underdog is slowly inching its way into front-runner territory. Does Mad Max: Fury Road have enough awards juice to top current favorites Spotlight and Carol and steal Best Picture at the Oscars in February? It's got a shot!

Other favorites among the Broadcast Film Critics include Carol (nine nominations) and The Martian (nine nominations), with The Big Short next up at seven nods.

Fan-friendly categories like Best Action Movie and Best Sci-fi/Horror Movie have also made room for the likes of Jurassic World to nab five nominations, with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and It Follows also among the nominees. And kudos to Sicario, one of the year's best movies, getting some love in the Best Picture category.

Check out all of the movie nominees below. The Critics' Choice Awards, hosted by T.J. Miller, will air on A&E, Lifetime and LMN on Sunday, January 17. Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger will be one of the cohosts of the BFCA live red-carpet show. Tune in!
