Now that we're right in the middle of baseball season, it seems right to discuss the future of the Major League franchise. You know the one: it began with the classic Major League – about a ragtag, underachieving group of baseball players who somehow band together and make it to he playoffs – and then sort of trailed off in a similar (but boring and uneventful) direction for two unsuccessful sequels. But that doesn't mean she can't be resurrected!
Moviehole reports that franchise regular Bob Ueker (who plays Cleveland Indians sports commentator Harry Doyle in the films) was at Wrigley Stadium last week where he chatted up a fourth Major League film with the real-life commentators. He claims to have already had contact with the creative geniuses behind the first three films (the last of which was 1998's Major League: Back to the Minors), and that it's really happening.
Now don't get your hopes up too high because most likely this golden puppy will be heading straight for the DVD bargain bin, though I wouldn't count out appearances from original cast members like Tom Berenger and Corbin Bernsen, both of whom have nothing much going on anyway. Charlie Sheen, on the other hand – he might be a tough one to convince.
What do you think? Is this a franchise worth reviving, or should it remain on the shelves of Blockbuster to collect dust for all eternity?
