With the SXSW Film Festival in full swing, several movies have premiered that have audiences buzzing. So what's the funniest? The scariest? The most daring? Here's a quick rundown of a few of the films causing a bit of a stir in Austin, Texas right now.

The Best Time

Everybody Wants Some

Our take: It's another quintessential Richard Linklater hang-out film that feels as if Dazed and Confused was filtered through Animal House. Yes, it's a lot more bro-tastic than Dazed was, but that same free-spirited vibe is all over this thing, with exceptionally naturalistic performances from its huge ensemble cast. If Dazed introduced us to Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck, then Everybody Wants Some will make you fall in love with Blake Jenner and Glen Powell. Watch out for those two.

Release date: April 1

The Scariest Time

Don't Breathe

Our take: The latest from director Fede Alvarez (The Evil Dead) -- about a group of home invaders who break into the wrong house -- is "a perfect midnight movie" according to our Peter Hall. "It's remarkably well made, great performances, a sick sense of humor and keeps twisting the knife on its characters and the audience. It isn't afraid to get weird and wild and shocking in all the right ways."

Release date: August 26

The Funniest Time

Keanu

Our take: Key and Peele make their big, splashy feature debut starring together in this gangsta-driven comedy about a couple of wimpy nice guys who find themselves in way over the heads when their little adopted kitten goes missing and winds up in the hands of a ruthless gang leader (Method Man).

While it does feel a little repetitive and one-note, it's hard not to laugh and laugh as Key and Peele continually look for new ways to extract nutty humor out of the concept. Plus there are some great cameos that feel earned and not forced. (Note: This was a work-in-progress screening and parts of it may be different when it hits theaters.)

Release date: April 29

The Craziest Time

Hardcore Henry

Our take: This insane action film, told entirely in the first person, plays out like a cinematic version of Call of Duty (or a similar game), with wildly inventive set pieces presented in a way you're not used to seeing on the big screen.

It's story is pretty light and a little weird, but Sharlto Copley's freakalicious performance as several different characters is worth the price of admission alone. If you can stomach the filmmaking approach, you're in for a bit of a treat. See it with a late-night audience if you can.

Release date: April 8

The Most Imaginative Time

Midnight Special

Our take: Part Spielberg, part John Carpenter, Jeff Nichols' latest team-up with Michael Shannon finds the actor playing a father who's racing across state lines with his superpowered child while attempting to escape a government who think he's a terrorist and and his former cultlike polygamist family who believe he's their savior.

The film is another example of big concepts delivered in small packages, but what makes this one so... well, special, is where they choose to begin and end, leaving audiences plenty of room to use their imaginations on either side of the story. The filmmakers do some of the heavy lifting while we're expected to do the rest.
