Marvel's on a roll to close out 2013. The comic book giant has released the first official pic from its upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy.
Additionally, we've gotten an updated synopsis, which reads as follows:
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power fo the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
Marvel will look to continue their successful post-Avengers run with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014.
The studio recently released new pics from Captain America, and this first look at Guardians should inspire some confidence in the finished product. The characters look fantastic. Now we just have to wait for a trailer which should likely arrive sometime in March to be attached to The Winter Soldier's April 4 release.
Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters August 1 and will lead into the events that will transpire in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
