Today is Groundhog Day, which is an exciting holiday because it’s totally one of the weirdest ones we have. Essentially we pull a poor groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil out of its hole, and if he sees his shadow we get six more weeks of Winter. If the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow, then we get an early Spring. It’s quite ludicrous, to be honest with you, but it’s a tradition, and without the holiday we wouldn’t have that fantastic movie Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray as a jaded newscaster who is forced to live the same day over and over again until he gets it right.
So how should we celebrate the day? Well first off, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow today, which means an early Spring! With that out of the way, let’s spend the rest of our time geeking out on the Bill Murray comedy we’ve re-watched over and over again each year.
Below you’ll find a very cool video remix that someone put together and posted on YouTube. The remix, which apparently took 8 months to string together, uses different sounds from the film to create one constant melody that’s actually pretty impressive. As the creator says, "It's comprised entirely-- and I mean entirely out of small bits and pieces of the movie, either re-pitched, slowed down, sped up, and sometimes with a slight touch of auto-tune for good measure (or a lot of auto-tune to re-configure chords in some score samples)."
