This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and in honor of this spectacular day for hardworking moms everywhere, we here at Fandango put up a list of the sexiest and scariest movie moms in contemporary cinema (ie: last thirty years) that was entirely created by you. And while I agree with some of your choices (Faye Dunaway and Anne Ramsey were truly scary moms, while Angelina Jolie and Diane Lane made for two ultra sexy moms), there are some I felt deserved a little extra attention. That said, here are my favorite movie moms from the past 30 years (in no particular order):
1. Linda Hamilton (Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) – I don’t know how she did it, but somehow Linda Hamilton proved to be sexy, scary and one of the toughest gals to every grace the silver screen … all at the same time. Definitely one of my favorite movie moms, and probably the only one who can save you from a devastating killer robot.
2. Beverly D’Angelo (Vacation movie) – Growing up during the ‘80s, I always had a wicked crush on Beverly
D’Angelo – who played mom to the wacky Griswald family (led, of course, by Chevy Chase) in all those Vacation movies. Sexy, daring and a tiny bit clueless – she has my vote for best movie mom to take on a long, exhausting road trip.
3. Uma Thurman (Kill Bill 1 & 2) – Next to Linda Hamilton in Terminator, Uma Thurman easily claws her way to the top of any Toughest Movie Moms list. Along with her keen eye, strong muscles and sharp swords, Bill isn’t the only one she’d kill in a matter of seconds. Oh, and did we mention she looks great in yellow?
4. Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut) – Kidman single-handedly brought sexy back with this role in Stanley
Kubrick’s last film. She played Tom Cruise’s wife while the two were still married, and never before has she looked so stoic and beautiful on screen. Remember that scene in the mirror?
5. Ellen Page (Juno) Soon-to-be moms count too, right? If so, then Ellen Page’s quirky-cute role in Juno makes my list of favorite movie moms simply because … well, why not? The bigger she got, the better she looked and the funnier she became. Page proved pregnant chicks always have the best sense of humor, and for that she deserves our love.
So those are five of my favorite movie moms from the past thirty years. Who are some of yours?
