Are you on Twitter yet? In the past few months, Twitter – which is an online social network devoted entirely to 140-character bloggish updates – has blown up, battling both Facebook and MySpace for a spot at the top of the social networking food chain. Now that Twitter is the hot new go-to thing for the young and the hip, celebrities have latched on as a way to become more personal with fans without having to do much at all.
With that in mind, I decided to dedicate a Friday Five to a few different celebrities who are doing some fun things on Twitter and might be worth a follow.
1. Jon Favreau (@jon_favreau) – The director of Iron Man and the upcoming Iron Man 2 joined Twitter earlier in the month and has since populated his feed with notes on being a filmmaker, the fears and concerns that go along with shooting one of next year’s most anticipated sequels – not to mention a whole bunch of images from his house, his Iron Man 2 rehearsals and the Iron Man 2 set.
2. Russell Brand (@rustyrockets) – This British comedian – who’s starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and is set to reprise that same role for the upcoming Get Him to the Greek – is all about the Twitter with over 140,000 followers. But there’s a reason they follow him: he’s funny, smart and wildly entertaining.
3. Rainn Wilson – (@rainnwilson) – This Office star (who’s also busy on the big screen in films like Rock Star and Monsters vs. Aliens) is one of my favorite celebs to follow on Twitter simply because of the random nonsense that comes out of his mouth. Two examples from yesterday: “I'm going to get spray on pale” and “Spotted in Van Nuys. Maroon Kia. License Plate frame reads: "Old Men Rule!" Window Sticker: "University of Margaritaville".
4. Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) and Demi Moore (@mrskutcher) – Cheating here a bit, but these two married celebrities combine to become one giant Twitter force of nature. Each updates several times a day with photos, video and random anecdotes. Definitely worth the follow.
5. Seth MacFarlane (@seth_macfarlane) – Yes, the wacky creator of Family Guy and American Dad is on Twitter, too. While we unfortunately don’t get to hear him reading his Tweets aloud in one of his many eclectic cartoon voices, his quirky humor still manages to shine through.
6. Erik Davis (@erikdavis) – This guy … well, let me tell you about this stud. He writes a whole lot for the crazy popular Fandango move blog, Freshly Popped, and he’s just ridiculously handsome. Oh, and he’s also me. Hi!
