20th Century Fox seems to be doing some controversial treasure hunting this year, assigning Robert Rodriguez and his crew to create a new Predator movie (based on the existing franchise) – and now Bloody Disgusting follows up on a report from last month that the studio wants to do something similar with its Alien franchise. Ridley Scott (who helmed the original) and Tony Scott are onboard as producers, and the new news concerns the guy they've chosen to direct: a commercial director by the name of Carl Rinsch is the man who will helm.

BD is hearing from their sources that the film will be more an origin story, less of a reboot, with only one alien on the ship. I'm not sure how you tell an origin story with only one alien on one ship, but it worked in the beginning and so it could work again. The first Alien is highly regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time, and I don't blame those fans skeptical of Fox's plans to rehash the solo series. Ridley Scott's involvement is a definitely a good thing, though, and I've heard this Rinsch guy is a pretty awesome commercial director. Soooo … things could go either way.

Will they now create more separate Alien and Predator movies until it's time, again, for them to meet in one film? Would you be interested in a solo Alien movie – and, to you, which sounds better: new Predator or new Alien?
