The first trailer for Jane Got a Gun, which had its original director and key cast members replaced at the last minute, looks pretty dang great, with no indication whatsoever that its surprisingly public production problems hurt the movie in the long run. Natalie Portman produces and stars as a frontier woman who must turn to her neighbor, an ex-lover, to help protect her family when her husband runs afoul of a gang.

The most exciting thing about the movie is that Jane isn't some poor damsel in distress. She's capable of holding her ground, she just knows she's outnumbered and needs to recruit some backup (Joel Edgerton) for some good old-fashioned shoot-outs.

Jane Got a Gun was directed by Gavin O'Connor (Warrior) from a screenplay by Brian Duffield, Anthony Tambakis and Joel Edgerton. It stars Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Ewn McGregor and Noah Emmerich. It'll hit theaters in February 2016.
